A prehistoric shelter occupied during the Aurignacian period (35,000 years ago), this archaeological site is accessible all year round from the museum along a short 1.5km shaded path dotted with informative stops.
Discovered by chance in 1852 in Aurignac's town, this cave was excavated in 1860 by the famous palaeontologist Edouard Lartet. Remains of animals, tools and hunting weapons from the begining of the upper Palaeolithic era were discevered on site. Since 1913, this place is the eponymous Aurignacien's place.
